WA: Police royal commission announced for WA =4

WA Opposition leader Colin Barnett said later the millions of dollars to be poured
into the royal commission would be better spent on providing more police resources.

"Apart from being grossly expensive it will tie up police for months on end and distract
them from their job, which is enforcing law and order," Mr Barnett said.

He said he had no doubt there were elements of corruption in such a large police service
but he did not believe it was widespread or could not be investigated without spending
millions of dollars.
